Arsenal took a major step toward winning the Premier League title after surviving late VAR drama to secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory against West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday.
The Gunners, chasing their first league crown since 2004, appeared destined for a frustrating draw before Belgian forward Leandro Trossard struck in the closing stages to hand Mikel Arteta’s side a priceless victory.
Arsenal’s win, however, came amid controversy after West Ham thought they had snatched a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser through Callum Wilson. Following a lengthy VAR review, referee Chris Kavanagh ruled out the goal for a foul on Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya during the build-up, sparking furious reactions from home supporters.
The decision proved decisive as Arsenal preserved all three points to remain five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table, although Pep Guardiola’s side still have a game in hand.

The result further strengthened Arsenal’s title ambitions after the North London club recently reached the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in two decades.
West Ham, meanwhile, remain deeply embroiled in the relegation battle following another painful defeat. The Hammers had produced a spirited defensive display for much of the encounter and believed they had earned a crucial point before VAR intervened late in added time.
Speaking after the match, Arteta praised his players’ resilience and composure in handling the intense pressure surrounding the title race.
With only two matches remaining, Arsenal now move closer to ending their 22-year wait for Premier League glory, while West Ham face mounting pressure in their fight for survival.
