The Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) has sealed Tonimas Filling Station located at Market Road by Asa, Aba, over alleged environmental infractions. The enforcement exercise took place on Friday following reports of improper sewage disposal by the management of the filling station .
According to ASEPA officials, the management of the filling station were found to have scooped sewage from their sucker pit and dumped it behind the fence of the filling station, exposing nearby residents and passersby to offensive odour and potential health risks.

“The agency received a report, visited the site, and swung into action immediately. The offenders were arraigned and charged in line with Abia State environmental laws, they were tried, and an order was issued to seal off the filling station until corrective measures are taken.” – an official confirmed.
ASEPA emphasized that the move further serves as a deterrent to other individuals and businesses engaging in similar practices.
“Whether Igbo,Hausa or Yoruba , no matter your tribe, no one will be spared. Anyone found violating sanitation rules will face the full weight of the law,” the agency stated.

This latest action follows a similar enforcement carried out on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, when ASEPA sealed a section of the Hausa community along the Aba–Port Harcourt Expressway for persistent violations of waste management regulations despite several warnings and engagements.
Deputy General Manager of ASEPA Aba zone, Elder Okezie Ezengwa, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to ensuring a cleaner and healthier Aba in line with the vision of Governor Alex Otti. He urged residents to embrace the “Keep Aba Clean” initiative and report any cases of indiscriminate refuse dumping or other environmental nuisances.

“Aba will only remain clean when everyone takes responsibility, ASEPA will not relent until residents learn to do the right thing.” – Elder Ezengwa said.
