Mohamed Salah Clinches Third Football Writers’ Player of the Year Award
Mohamed Salah has been named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Player of the Year for the third time, following a stellar season that saw him lead Liverpool to a historic, record-equalling 20th English league title.
The Egyptian forward delivered an exceptional campaign, contributing 28 goals and 18 assists in the Premier League. His combined 46 goal involvements set a new benchmark for the most in a 38-game Premier League season, as Arne Slot’s Liverpool side stormed to their first league crown since 2020.
Salah received close to 90 percent of the FWA votes the largest winning margin of the 21st century.
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk finished as runner-up, while Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice placed third and fourth respectively.
Having previously won the award in 2017–18 and 2021–22, Salah now joins Arsenal legend Thierry Henry as one of only two players to claim the prestigious honour three times.
The 32-year-old further delighted Liverpool supporters by signing a new two-year contract that will keep him at Anfield until 2027, quashing recent transfer speculation.
Salah’s continued presence is expected to bolster Liverpool’s pursuit of a record-breaking 21st top-flight title, potentially moving them ahead of Manchester United as the most decorated club in English league history.

On the women’s side, Alessia Russo earned the FWA Women’s Player of the Year accolade, becoming the second Arsenal player to receive the award. She edged out Manchester City’s Khadija Shaw, last year’s winner.
