President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, for the 20th G20 Summit and to Luanda, Angola, for the 7th AU-EU Summit, following renewed security concerns in Kebbi and Kwara states.
The President’s decision comes in the wake of the abduction of 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi State and Monday’s attack on worshippers at the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State. According to the Presidency, Tinubu opted to remain in Abuja to receive further security briefings on both incidents.
In response to an appeal from the Kwara State governor, the President directed the military and police authorities to deploy additional personnel to Eruku and surrounding communities. Security agencies have also been ordered to pursue the bandits responsible for the church attack.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi State on behalf of the President, is expected to submit a detailed report on the abduction. Separate reports from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services on the Kwara attack are also being awaited.
The Presidency reaffirmed President Tinubu’s instruction to security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted schoolgirls and to restore calm in the affected areas.

The statement was issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on November 19, 2025.
