The Executive Chairman of Ukwa East Local Government Area, Hon. Chibunna Akara, has officially flagged off the 2025 First Round of the Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) Week in Ukwa East, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving community health outcomes.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Hon. Akara acknowledged that malnutrition especially among women and children remains a significant challenge. He, however, assured the public that his administration remains resolute in tackling such health issues in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He called on mothers, caregivers, and community stakeholders to actively participate in the week’s activities, which are focused on promoting healthy diets, exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding, antenatal care, family planning, and routine immunization for eligible women and children.

Hon. Akara also expressed gratitude to the Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, for his continued efforts in reforming and investing in the state’s healthcare system. He pledged to prioritize primary healthcare initiatives to ensure accessible, quality health services for every family in Ukwa East.
The Health Secretary of Ukwa East, Sir Akpara, in his remarks, praised the Executive Chairman for his unwavering support and dedication to the health sector, noting that his leadership has had a measurable impact on the well-being of residents.

Sir Akpara also extended appreciation to the Chairperson of Ukwa East, Mrs. Favour Akara, for her consistent support of women and children in the community. “Your thoughtful initiatives reflect a sincere commitment to maternal and child welfare,” he said.

According to the information made available by the chief press secretary to the executive chairman IkwaEasy LGA Comrade Justice Enyinnaya Nwaubani, the event was well attended by traditional rulers from the Eze-in-Council, members of the Local Government Executive Council, political appointees, youth and women leaders, and other stakeholders.
