Nigerian international Ademola Lookman has completed a high-profile transfer to Spanish giants Atlético Madrid from Italian club Atalanta, finalising a deal that sees the 28-year-old attacker move to La Liga on a long-term contract. The clubs announced the agreement after reaching terms on the transfer, with Lookman already in Madrid to complete formalities including a medical and contract signing.

The versatile forward, known for his pace and attacking creativity, signed a contract with Atlético that runs until June 30, 2030. Media reports suggest the transfer fee is around €35-40 million, making it one of Atlético’s significant winter window acquisitions aimed at bolstering their offensive options.

Lookman enjoyed a successful three-and-a-half-year stint at Atalanta, where he scored regularly and delivered memorable performances, including a hat-trick that helped the club win the 2024 UEFA Europa League final. His consistent displays in Serie A and on the continental stage raised his profile as one of Europe’s dynamic wide attackers.

Atlético Madrid, currently positioned in a competitive spot in La Liga, see Lookman as a key addition under coach Diego Simeone, with the Nigerian expected to strengthen their campaign domestically and in European competitions. His arrival coincides with the team’s need to enhance their attacking depth amidst injuries and departures.

Lookman began his professional career in England before moving to Germany and later to Italy, gaining experience with clubs like RB Leipzig, Fulham, and Leicester City. His move to Atlético marks a significant step in his career as he prepares to test himself in one of Europe’s top leagues.
