The Abia State Ministry of Environment has announced that the state’s monthly sanitation exercise for October will hold on Saturday, October 25, 2025, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
According to a statement authorized by the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Asonye Ogbonna, movement of persons and vehicles within the stipulated hours will be restricted, except for those on essential duties who must present valid identification or official authorization when requested.
The release further directed Local Government Chairmen (Mayors), Traditional Rulers, Town Union Leaders, Religious Leaders, and Youth and Women Organizations to mobilize and sensitize residents on the importance of the exercise and to ensure full participation in their respective communities.
In addition, all markets, motor parks, transport companies, and business premises are expected to observe a separate cleanup on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
The Ministry assured that tippers would be available on Saturday to evacuate refuse from designated points. Security agencies including the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been directed to assemble at their usual take-off points for deployment and enforcement.
Residents are urged to remain indoors, clean their surroundings, and ensure they wear nose masks during the exercise. The Ministry also warned that defaulters will be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.
