It was a dramatic evening at the Enyimba International Stadium, popularly known as the Elephant Park, as visiting Warri Wolves pulled off a stunning 2–1 victory over Enyimba International FC their second consecutive defeat in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Speaking after the match, the head coach of Warri Wolves Johnny Austin attributed the hard-fought victory to divine grace and strategic discipline.
“First of all, I give glory to God who made this possible. It’s a thing of joy for us as a team because we had previously drawn at home. We came here with the aim of getting at least a point, but God gave us three,” the coach said.
He explained that the team had studied Enyimba’s style of play and came with a well-defined plan to contain their hosts and capitalize on counter-attacking opportunities.

“We had good information about Enyimba and mapped out our strategy carefully. Our plan was simple, get a goal and defend it. Thank God it worked perfectly,” he added.
The tactician, whose side has now recorded a third away win this season, attributed their impressive away form to reduced pressure compared to home matches.
“At home, you play under more pressure because your fans always expect three points. Away from home, we’re calmer and can execute our strategies better. We have strong strikers and good pace upfront, so we rely on quick counterattacks — and that’s what gave us victory today,” he explained.
Warri Wolves opened the scoring in the 16th minute following an own goal by Enyimba’s Mohammed. The People’s Elephant, however, drew level in the 27th minute through a brilliant finish from Edidiong Ezekiel, restoring parity before halftime.
Despite Enyimba’s spirited display, Warri Wolves regained the lead in the second half, sealing the victory with a decisive goal that left the home fans stunned.
As the final whistle blew, disappointed Enyimba fans were seen leaving the stadium in droves, visibly dejected by their team’s back-to-back defeats.

Warri Wolves, on the other hand, celebrated another crucial away win, strengthening their confidence ahead of upcoming fixtures.
