Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reportedly unveiled former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
The announcement was made during the National Convention of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Bauchi State.
Daura replaces Ibrahim Adamu Bala, who had earlier been announced as Makinde’s running mate. According to the information surrounding the development, Bala’s nomination was intended to serve as a placeholder pending the selection of a substantive running mate.
The emergence of Daura adds a prominent security figure to Makinde’s presidential ticket as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.
Daura’s Political Movement
The former DSS Director-General reportedly joined the APM only a few days ago after leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
His departure from the ADC reportedly followed his failure to secure the party’s governorship ticket in Katsina State.
His subsequent movement to the APM and emergence as Makinde’s running mate marks a significant development in the unfolding political realignments ahead of 2027.
The choice of a former intelligence chief could also become a major talking point in the presidential contest, given Daura’s extensive experience within Nigeria’s security establishment.
