A faction of the Accord Party has withdrawn its support for Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and declared its backing for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The declaration was made on Thursday by the National Chairman of the faction, Professor Christopher Imumolen, during the APC’s mega rally in Osogbo.
Imumolen said the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) had resolved to support Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, in the August 15 election.
Speaking before supporters at the rally, he said the decision represented the position of the faction’s leadership.
“As Chairman of the Accord and with all our National Working Committee members here present, we withdraw our support for Governor Ademola Adeleke and support AMBO,” Imumolen said.
He subsequently called on Accord members and supporters across Osun State to vote for Oyebamiji and the APC on Saturday.
“All our members are enjoined to vote for AMBO and the APC in Saturday’s election,” he added.
Decision Comes Amid Accord Crisis
The endorsement comes against the backdrop of an internal crisis within the Accord Party.
The party had suspended its planned mega rally scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, amid disagreements within its ranks.
Imumolen explained that the decision to support Oyebamiji was also influenced by the party’s inability to mobilise its members for the proposed rally.
The development has added another dimension to the increasingly competitive race for the Osun governorship, with the election scheduled for August 15.
Uzodinma Predicts APC Victory
Also speaking at the APC rally, Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, expressed confidence that the APC would emerge victorious.
Uzodinma urged Osun voters to support Oyebamiji, describing the election as an opportunity for the state to join what he called the “fold of the progressives.”
“Vote AMBO, vote prosperity, vote Osun for the state to be prosperous. We 31 state governors are in the state in solidarity and to welcome the state to the fold of the progressives,” Uzodinma said.
His presence at the rally was part of a wider show of support from the APC leadership for its candidate.
Oyebamiji Promises “Strict Governance”
Addressing party supporters and Osun residents, Oyebamiji pledged that an APC administration under his leadership would prioritise good governance and the welfare of the people.
The APC candidate said his administration would focus less on political theatrics and more on delivering tangible results.
“Our government that will be elected on August 15, 2026, will be a government of the people, and we will stand on your mandate. No dance anymore, but strict governance. I have the mandate to touch the lives of the people of Osun,” Oyebamiji said.
The statement formed part of his final campaign message as political parties intensify their mobilisation ahead of Saturday’s poll.
Oyetola Backs Oyebamiji
The APC leader in Osun State and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, also urged voters to support Oyebamiji.
Oyetola described the APC candidate as a tested and trusted politician whose record, according to him, compares favourably with those of other contenders.
“Let’s support Oyebamiji. His track record is there compared to how other candidates have fared,” Oyetola said.
The endorsement by the Accord faction is expected to further shape the final days of the campaign as the major parties make their final appeals to voters across Osun State.
With the election now only a day away, attention will shift from campaign rallies and endorsements to voter turnout, the conduct of the poll and ultimately the decision of the people of Osun at the ballot box.
