Technology entrepreneur Charles Awuzie has declared support for the re-election of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Benjamin Kalu, citing his contributions to private security sector development, national security reforms and personal interventions in critical situations.

Awuzie, in a facebook post, said his support for Kalu was informed by his personal experiences with the lawmaker, whom he credited with providing assistance to his business ventures and professional engagements.

He recalled that Kalu met with his partners during a visit to Australia…… and vouched for his character, describing the intervention as one of several instances in which the Deputy Speaker had supported his activities.

Awuzie also attributed the successful hosting of the Nigerian Peoples Strategic Conference (NPSC) event, which he said was at risk of cancellation in Abuja, partly to Kalu’s intervention.

According to him, the Deputy Speaker contacted the Minister of Interior and facilitated a conversation that helped address the situation. He added that Senator Osita had also made efforts to ensure the event went ahead.

The entrepreneur said Kalu had consistently responded to his requests for assistance despite the demands of his position as Deputy Speaker.

Beyond his personal experiences, Awuzie said he had witnessed Kalu support a kidney transplant for a person he described as a complete stranger.

He also cited the lawmaker’s involvement in efforts to advance state policing legislation, saying he had personally observed the work and commitment behind the process.

Addressing perceptions about Kalu’s personality, Awuzie said some people mistake his charisma for pride, insisting that the lawmaker was humble and accessible in his interactions.

He described Kalu as a public official whose personal disposition, in his view, was often misunderstood by those who had not interacted closely with him.

Awuzie further declared his intention to support Governor Alex Otti’s re-election in Abia State while also backing Kalu’s return to the House of Representatives.

He argued that Kalu’s continued presence in the National Assembly would be important to ongoing efforts to integrate state policing and the private security sector into Nigeria’s national security framework.

According to him, the work being undertaken by stakeholders in the private security industry could face setbacks if lawmakers championing the sector’s development were not returned to office.

Awuzie clarified that his support for Kalu was not financially motivated, stating that the Deputy Speaker had never given him money.

Instead, he said he was encouraging Kalu to establish a campaign fund account through which supporters could contribute to his re-election campaign.

Drawing a comparison with business leaders who financially support political figures whose policies align with their interests, Awuzie said he was prepared to support politicians who advance innovation in the areas in which he works.

His declaration adds to the political endorsements emerging ahead of the 2027 general elections, as aspirants and their supporters begin to make their positions known.
