Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has named Harry Kane and Michael Olise as two players deserving of the 2026 Ballon d’Or, but admitted that he would choose Kane for the prestigious individual award.

Hainer made his position known in an interview with German newspaper BILD, praising the performances of both Bayern stars ahead of the award ceremony scheduled for October 26, 2026.

“Both Michael Olise and Harry Kane deserve to win the Ballon d’Or, but I would give it to Harry Kane,” Hainer said, according to reports of the interview.

The Bayern president also praised Olise’s development, describing the French international as one of the best players in world football and expressing confidence that he could win the award in the future.

Olise has attracted attention for his performances for Bayern, while Kane has continued to strengthen his reputation as one of Europe’s leading forwards.

Hainer’s comments add to the debate surrounding this year’s Ballon d’Or, with several leading players competing for the honour following their performances during the 2025/26 season.

The 2026 shortlist includes other high-profile names, such as Kylian Mbappé, Lamine Yamal and Lionel Messi. The winner is due to be announced at the ceremony in London on October 26. Although Hainer has made his preference clear, the final decision will be determined by the award’s voting process.
