President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging members to intensify grassroots mobilisation and secure support for the party at polling units nationwide.

The inauguration took place on Wednesday at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, marking a major step in the ruling party’s preparations for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Addressing members of the council, the President called on party leaders and campaign officials to demonstrate commitment, strengthen the APC’s grassroots structures and effectively communicate the administration’s achievements to Nigerians.

The campaign council brings together APC leaders, governors, lawmakers, political appointees and other stakeholders tasked with coordinating the party’s activities ahead of the presidential election scheduled for January 16, 2027.

The party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, expressed confidence in Tinubu’s chances of securing a second term, arguing that the President’s performance since assuming office in 2023 positioned him ahead of other contenders.

Yilwatda cited ongoing projects and interventions in roads, rail, ports, gas infrastructure, agriculture and digital connectivity as areas the party intends to highlight during the campaign.

He also pointed to the APC’s extensive political structure, noting that its network of party executives and governors would play a critical role in mobilising voters across the country.

The national chairman urged members of the campaign council to return to their respective polling units and organise effectively, stressing the importance of translating the party’s political structures into electoral support.

The inauguration was attended by Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC governors, members of the National Assembly and other party stakeholders.

Among those present were Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, alongside other political leaders.

The APC is expected to commence its presidential campaign in Kaduna on October 24 as preparations gather momentum for the 2027 elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed January 16, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly elections, following a revision of the electoral timetable.
