The Labour Party governorship candidate in Abia State says the late professor’s contributions to education and societal development will endure.

Ceekay Igara, the Abia State governorship candidate of the Abure-led Labour Party, has expressed grief over the death of Professor Gregory Ibe, founder of Gregory University, Uturu, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance governorship candidate in the 2023 election.

Igara, in a condolence message issued on Wednesday, October 21, extended his sympathies to the deceased’s family, associates, management and staff of Gregory University, as well as members of the academic community.

He described Ibe as an accomplished academic, a gentleman and a God-fearing individual whose contributions to education and the development of Abia State would remain part of his legacy.

According to him, Ibe made significant contributions to the state before venturing into partisan politics, demonstrating a commitment to public service and societal advancement.

The Labour Party chieftain said the establishment of Gregory University, Uturu, reflected the late professor’s investment in education and human capital development.

He added that the university founder’s death represented a significant loss to the academic community, noting that his institutional contributions would continue to be remembered by students, scholars and other beneficiaries of his work.

“Professor Gregory Ibe’s death is a painful loss, not only to his immediate family and associates but also to the academic community and the people of Abia State. He was a man whose contributions to education and society deserve to be remembered with respect,” Igara said.

He further expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and the university community, praying that God would grant them the strength to endure the loss.

“At this difficult moment, my thoughts and prayers are with his family, the university community and all those who mourn his passing. May God grant them the strength and comfort to bear this irreparable loss,” he added.

Igara prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and asked God to grant his family, friends and associates the fortitude to navigate the period of mourning.

May the soul of Professor Gregory Ibe rest in perfect peace.
