President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday inaugurated the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, as party leaders and political figures from other parties gathered to signal support for his 2027 re-election bid.
The event brought together Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC governors, members of the National Assembly and other political stakeholders at the State House Conference Centre in the Federal Capital Territory.
Among those present were Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.
The gathering also featured political figures from outside the APC, including Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Their inclusion in the campaign council reflects the broad political coalition assembled around Tinubu’s re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu chairs the council, with Shettima serving as First Vice Chairman and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda as Second Vice Chairman. Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari is the Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma serves as Secretary.
Speaking at the inauguration, Yilwatda called on Nigerians to support Tinubu’s re-election, citing the administration’s projects and policies in infrastructure, agriculture, transportation, gas development and digital connectivity.
He also highlighted the APC’s political structure across the country, urging party members to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and organise effectively at their respective polling units.
The national chairman said the party’s organisational capacity and the support of political stakeholders would be central to its campaign activities.
The inauguration marks a major step in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with the party scheduled to begin its campaign in Kaduna State on October 24, 2026.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed January 16, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly elections.
