Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hürzeler has explained why Nigerian forwards Femi Azeez and Zadok Yohanna have struggled to secure regular playing opportunities at the club.
Hürzeler said both players were still adapting to Brighton’s demands and the intensity of the team’s playing style, adding that they would need time to settle into their new environment.
The German coach provided the update ahead of Brighton’s UEFA Conference League fixture against Kauno Žalgiris on Thursday.
According to Hürzeler, there was no major concern surrounding the duo, but the club was keen to give them sufficient time to adjust before increasing their involvement.
“Some players need more time to adapt to the intensity,” the manager explained, noting that the situation involving Azeez was similar to that of Yohanna.
He said Brighton would continue to provide an environment that allows both players to understand the team’s tactical demands and adapt to its style of play.
Azeez joined Brighton from Millwall during the summer transfer window but is yet to make his competitive first-team debut for the Seagulls.
Yohanna, who arrived from Swedish club AIK Stockholm, has made three substitute appearances for Brighton but is still working towards establishing himself in the first team.
Both players were unavailable for the Conference League meeting against Kauno Žalgiris, with Azeez also missing training ahead of the fixture.
Hürzeler’s comments suggest that adaptation and careful management remain central to the club’s approach as the Nigerian forwards work towards earning more opportunities.
The development will be closely followed by Nigerian football supporters eager to see both players make greater contributions at Brighton.
