Hon. Munachim Ikechi Alozie, the lawmaker representing the Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has reportedly secured the ticket of the Action Peoples Party (APP) ahead of the 2027 general election, following his loss of the Labour Party’s return ticket.
Alozie currently represents the constituency in the 10th National Assembly on the platform of the Labour Party. Parliamentary records show that he won the seat in the 2023 election after previously serving two terms in the Abia State House of Assembly.
From Labour Party to APP
The latest development marks a significant shift in Alozie’s political journey ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reports in May indicated that the Labour Party had denied the incumbent lawmaker its ticket to seek re-election. The party was subsequently reported to have issued its nomination form to Dr. Okey Nwambu, who emerged as its preferred candidate for the constituency.
With the Labour Party route effectively closed to him, Alozie has now moved to the APP, where he is reported to have emerged as the party’s candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.

The development gives the incumbent lawmaker a fresh platform from which to pursue his bid for another term.
Alozie’s Political Experience
Alozie is not new to elective politics.
Before entering the National Assembly, he represented Ugwunagbo State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly for two terms between 2015 and 2023. He also served as Majority Chief Whip of the state legislature.
He subsequently left the Peoples Democratic Party and joined the Labour Party in 2022 before contesting the federal constituency seat under the LP platform in 2023.
His move to APP therefore represents another major realignment in a political career that has already spanned local government, state and federal politics.
A Competitive Constituency
The Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency comprises three local government areas in Abia State and remains an important political constituency in the state. Alozie is currently the incumbent representative.
His decision to seek re-election under another party is likely to add another layer to the political contest ahead of 2027.
The move also comes amid growing political activity across Abia State, with politicians and political parties already positioning themselves for the next general election.
Labour Party Faces Fresh Challenge
The development also presents the Labour Party with the task of defending a seat it currently holds.
The party’s reported decision to back Okey Nwambu instead of Alozie means that the two political figures could now face one another from different platforms, depending on the final list of candidates cleared for the election.
Meanwhile, online reactions to Alozie’s political future have been mixed, with some social media commentators questioning his performance as a federal lawmaker, while others continue to support his bid for another term. Such social media claims should be treated as political opinions rather than established findings.
2027 Battle Takes Shape
Alozie’s emergence under the APP demonstrates how fluid the political landscape could become as the 2027 elections approach.

For the lawmaker, the immediate challenge will be to transfer the political structure and support he built under the Labour Party to his new platform.
For the Labour Party, the challenge will be to convince voters that its new candidate can retain the constituency.
Ultimately, the contest will be decided by voters across Obingwa, Osisioma and Ugwunagbo, who will determine who represents them in the House of Representatives from 2027.
The 2027 race for the constituency is already shaping up to be one of the closely watched federal contests in Abia State.
