Liya

Nigerian singer Liya has opened up on her exit from Davido Music Worldwide, revealing that her time at the label took a serious emotional toll on her.

Speaking during a recent interview, the former signee of Davido disclosed that she battled depression due to a lack of attention to her career and mounting external pressure.

According to her, despite releasing songs under the label, she felt her growth as an artist was not adequately supported, prompting her decision to leave in search of personal and professional development.

Reflecting on the experience, Liya described the period as “sad” and “depressing,” adding that she was physically and emotionally drained before deciding to walk away. She noted that criticism and negative perceptions from the public further worsened her situation, affecting her confidence and online presence.

The singer also revealed that sustained pressure made her withdraw from social media, as she struggled with constant backlash and self-doubt during her time with the label.

Liya, who was the first female artiste signed to Davido Music Worldwide in 2020, eventually exited the label to rebuild her career independently, marking a turning point in her journey as an artist.

Her revelation adds to ongoing conversations around mental health and artist management within the Nigerian music industry, particularly the pressures faced by emerging talents under major labels.
