Ukwa East local government area was on Thursday enveloped in a wave of jubilation, marked by vibrant traditional displays, as the Executive Governor of Abia State performed the groundbreaking ceremony of a state-of-the-art general hospital in Ikwuorie Autonomous Community, within the ancient kingdom of Ohanku Ndoki. This momentous occasion signifies a pivotal advancement in healthcare infrastructure for Ukwa East local government area, the first of its kind since the creation of Abia state in Ukwa East.

The esteemed people of Ohanku, the host community for this transformative initiative spearheaded by the administration of Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, extended their characteristic warmth and hospitality to the visiting dignitaries.
Governor Otti, widely lauded as the most effective governor in Abia State since 1999, was received with immense enthusiasm, reflecting the community’s appreciation for his commitment to development.
The Governor’s arrival at Uhukaka in Ikwuorie, the designated site for the new general hospital, was accompanied by a retinue of distinguished guests, including the member representing Ukwa East and Ukwa west at the House of Representatives Hon Chris Nkwonta a member of the All progressive congress.
The strategic importance of this medical facility cannot be overstated. It is poised to become a beacon of proper and affordable healthcare, that will be equipped with modern amenities, attracting patients from Ukwa East LGA and its surrounding communities, thereby establishing Ohanku as a regional healthcare hub.
This development is particularly strategic given its geographical placement. Neighboring Local Government Areas, including parts of Aba South such as Owerri Aba areas, and Ugwunagbor LGA, will significantly benefit from its accessibility.
This accessibility is further enhanced by the approval Governor Otti gave for the reconstruction of Ohanku Road, extending from Owerri Aba to Ohanku Ndoki , through Abayi nchokoro, Umuaja village, Ukebe village, and eventually to Obohia. This infrastructure improvement will ensure that quality healthcare services in Ohanku are just minutes away for a broad populace.

The establishment of this general hospital addresses a long-standing void. Following the previous failure of the Ohanku health center, and none existence of any general hospital in Ukwa east as whole, the community and its environs have endured years of neglect from successive administrations, leaving them without adequate healthcare alternatives.
At the heart of this monumental achievement stands Honourable Prince Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information of Abia State. As a proud son of the Ikwuorie Autonomous Community in Ohanku, where this advanced medical facility is now being situated, the Commissioner Kanu played an instrumental role.

His unwavering dedication and influence were critical in attracting this project to his hometown and ensuring its strategic placement within Ikwuorie, a testament to his profound love and commitment to his people as the first commissioner from the community.
In previous months, many, unaware of the diligent efforts behind the scenes, had questioned Commissioner Kanu’s contributions to his constituency.
However, as the community celebrates this tangible progress today, it is imperative to acknowledge the visionary leadership and silent dedication of the man who championed this cause. Hon. Prince Okey Kanu, a man of profound vision, whose actions speak louder than words, has delivered a legacy of hope and improved well-being for his people.
Let us therefore celebrate our own, the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Dede nma nma oh, igbaliala oh, Hon. Sir Prince Okey Kanu Nwa Amadi Ohanku, for his exemplary service and noiseless impactful leadership.
