United States President Donald Trump has revealed that American forces collaborated with Nigerian authorities to carry out air strikes against ISIS terrorists in Sokoto on Christmas Day. Trump made the disclosure during remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., where he spoke about security operations and international partnerships aimed at combating terrorism.
According to Trump, the operation was specifically designed to target ISIS militants allegedly responsible for widespread killings of Christians in Nigeria. He stated that the strikes were ordered to “decimate” the terrorists and emphasized the importance of demonstrating decisive military action against extremist groups operating in the region.
The US leader explained that the strikes were executed in close coordination with the Nigerian government but stressed that more stringent action may be required in the fight against insurgency. Trump said he personally directed that the operation be carried out on Christmas Day, highlighting its symbolic and strategic significance.
Trump further disclosed that the air strikes were initially planned for another date but were later rescheduled following his directive. He claimed that the attack inflicted heavy damage on the militants and added that subsequent strikes were launched to further weaken ISIS fighters operating in northwestern Nigeria.
Earlier announcements from US authorities confirmed that the strikes, conducted on December 25, were carried out following requests from Nigerian authorities. The US Department of Defense reported that the military operation led to the death of several ISIS terrorists during the coordinated assault.
During the event, Trump also acknowledged the presence of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, describing her as a respected figure and a Christian pastor. The annual National Prayer Breakfast brings together global political leaders, clergy, and policymakers for discussions on faith, governance, and leadership.
