Fresh developments continue to unfold at Enyimba Football Club following recent administrative shake-ups that have sparked conversations around leadership control and governance within Nigeria’s most decorated football institution.

The latest twist comes with the promotion of Daniel Eke to the position of Chief Scouting Officer, a move officially communicated by Club Chairman and former Super Eagles captain, Ambassador Kanu Nwankwo (MON). The decision, according to sources within the club, is part of ongoing restructuring efforts aimed at strengthening Enyimba’s talent recruitment framework and long-term technical strategy.

However, the development arrives against the backdrop of a widely discussed disagreement within Abia State’s football administrative circle. Earlier, the club’s initial appointment of former Super Eagles defender Uche Okechukwu as Sporting Director reportedly faced resistance from the Abia State Government. In a surprising counter move days later, the state government, under Governor Alex Otti, approved the appointment of Daniel Eke as Sporting Director a decision many observers interpreted as a clear indication of a power struggle between Enyimba Chairman Kanu Nwankwo and the Abia State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba.

Despite the administrative friction, Enyimba management has proceeded with Eke’s elevation within the club’s scouting structure. Having previously served as Scouting Manager, Eke is expected to coordinate and supervise the club’s scouting operations, with responsibility for identifying and developing talents capable of sustaining Enyimba’s domestic dominance and continental ambitions.

According to the club Eke’s rise through the ranks reflects his long association with the club, having emerged from Enyimba’s developmental system. Football stakeholders familiar with his work credit him with strong scouting expertise, structured talent identification processes, and a philosophy aligned with modern football development standards.

While Enyimba continues to position the promotion as a strategic step toward reinforcing its technical depth, analysts believe the overlapping administrative decisions surrounding the Sporting Director role highlight ongoing governance complexities between club leadership and state authorities.

For now, Enyimba supporters and stakeholders remain watchful as the situation evolves, with many hoping the club can stabilize its leadership structure and refocus on restoring its dominance in Nigerian and African club football.
