The Abia State Government has approved the appointment of Mr. Daniel Eke as the new Sporting Director of Enyimba International Football Club, Aba, following the resignation of former Super Eagles international, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, who stepped aside from the role last week. The decision comes amid growing concern over Enyimba FC’s recent struggles, with the club currently placed 12th on the 2025/2026 Nigeria Professional Football League table, a position seen as below its historic standards.

Governor Alex Otti approved the appointment as part of a broader plan to reform Enyimba’s management and administrative structure, strengthen professionalism, and return the club to its traditional position among Nigeria’s and Africa’s elite football institutions. The state government stressed the need for strong strategic leadership to drive competitiveness and long-term sustainability.

Mr. Daniel Eke, a product of Enyimba’s feeder team, is widely experienced in football management, scouting, and player development. Over the years, he has held key technical and managerial roles with Enyimba FC, Rivers United, Abia Warriors, and Rangers International, building a solid reputation within the Nigerian football ecosystem.

The Abia State Government expressed confidence that Eke’s industry network, technical competence, and track record in player development will be instrumental in repositioning Enyimba FC as a professionally run and globally respected club, while also supporting youth empowerment and economic growth through sports.

Meanwhile, the development has attracted public attention following Enyimba FC’s recent announcement of former Super Eagles defender and club legend, Uche Okechukwu MON, as Sporting Director, also in replacement of Ifeanyi Ekwueme, creating uncertainty and debate over the club’s sporting leadership structure.
