Abia State Governor Alex Otti has congratulated the immediate past governor of the state, Okezie Ikpeazu, following his appointment as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Madrid, Spain.

In a goodwill message issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, Governor Otti described Ikpeazu’s diplomatic appointment as an opportunity to serve the country at the international level while advancing and protecting the interests of Nigerians living in Spain.

The governor also expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the appointment, noting that the former Abia governor possesses the experience and capacity to represent Nigeria effectively in his new role.

Otti further urged the Federal Government to provide Ikpeazu and other newly appointed ambassadors with the necessary support and resources required to enable them succeed in their diplomatic assignments.

The Abia governor wished the former state leader a productive and impactful tenure as he begins his service representing Nigeria abroad.

President Tinubu recently approved the deployment of 65 ambassadors, including 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career envoys, to various countries and multilateral organisations such as the United Nations. Ikpeazu was among those named, with his posting to Spain’s capital, Madrid.

Political observers note that Otti and Ikpeazu have remained on opposing sides of Abia State’s political divide since 2014, sustaining a rivalry that has shaped the state’s political landscape through several election cycles. Ikpeazu served as Abia governor from 2015 to 2023 before leaving office.

Despite their long-standing political differences, Otti’s message is being viewed by some analysts as a gesture of political maturity and statesmanship within the state’s evolving political environment.
