According to a report by peoples gazette the Cross River State government has identified and isolated 10 individuals who came into contact with a Chinese national diagnosed with COVID-19, in a renewed effort to contain the virus.

State epidemiologist, Dr. Inyang Ekpenyong, disclosed that the individuals were traced through contact tracking and have since been placed under strict monitoring to prevent further transmission.

According to health authorities, the affected persons have had their movements restricted and are currently under observation, with no reported symptoms so far.

The index case involves a 53-year-old Chinese national who arrived in Nigeria on March 17 and later developed symptoms while working in Akamkpa Local Government Area.

Officials confirmed that the patient is receiving treatment at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital and is responding positively.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ayuk, assured residents that all necessary containment protocols have been activated, including surveillance, contact tracing, and infection control measures.

Authorities also emphasized that there is currently no evidence of widespread transmission, urging the public to remain calm while adhering to preventive guidelines such as hand hygiene and the use of face masks.

The development highlights ongoing concerns about imported cases of COVID-19 and the need for continued vigilance, as global movement continues to pose risks of reintroduction of the virus.
