Arsenal loanee Ethan Nwaneri made an impressive Bundesliga debut as Borussia Dortmund fought back from two goals down to beat Hoffenheim 3-2 on Saturday.
The 19-year-old joined Dortmund on a season-long loan from Arsenal on transfer deadline day and was introduced during the first half after Filippo Mane was forced off with an injury.
Hoffenheim looked set for a comfortable victory after Leon Avdullahu and Tim Lemperle put the hosts two goals ahead.
Dortmund, however, produced a spirited response in the second half.
Serhou Guirassy pulled one back in the 61st minute before Fabio Silva restored parity five minutes later.
Nwaneri then played a decisive role in the late comeback, driving into the Hoffenheim penalty area before his effort was deflected into the net by Albian Hajdari in the 87th minute.
The goal was officially credited as an own goal, handing Dortmund a dramatic 3-2 victory.
The result gives Dortmund six points from their opening two Bundesliga matches and provides an encouraging start to Nwaneri’s loan spell in Germany.
Nwaneri, who became the youngest player in Premier League history when he made his Arsenal debut at 15, joined Dortmund as the German club looked to strengthen their attacking options.
His first appearance for Dortmund will provide further encouragement as he begins his latest chapter away from Arsenal.
