UMUAHIA — The people of Umuana Community, Umuahia, Abia State, have celebrated their annual Iri Ji Ndume Okpu festival, with the event attracting political figures, community leaders and residents.
The celebration, hosted by Hon. Chief Paul Meregini, was marked by cultural displays, communal interaction and thanksgiving for the new yam harvest.
Among those who attended the festival was the Senatorial hopeful for Abia Central, Hon. Emeka Atuma, whose presence underscored his continued engagement with communities across the district.
Atuma, while identifying with the people, interacted with residents and community stakeholders during the celebration.
His participation also provided an opportunity for discussions around community aspirations, development and the role of traditional institutions in preserving the cultural identity of the people.
The annual Iri Ji Ndume Okpu festival is regarded as an important cultural occasion through which the people celebrate the harvest and reaffirm their connection to their ancestral heritage.
