Women stakeholders from the Ikwuano/Umuahia axis of Abia State have expressed support for the senatorial ambition of the All Progressives Congress candidate for Abia Central, Rt. Hon. Emeka Atuma, and the House of Representatives bid of Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji for the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The women made their position known during a meeting of the Ikwuano/Umuahia Women’s Forum for Atuma and Orji held in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
The gathering attracted women leaders and stakeholders from Umuahia North, Umuahia South and Ikwuano Local Government Areas, among others.
Addressing the gathering, Atuma appealed to the women to support the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and vote for him in the Abia Central Senatorial District election.
He also urged them to support Chinedum Orji in the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency election.
Atuma’s appeal comes as political activities and consultations intensify across Abia Central ahead of the 2027 elections, with political parties and candidates increasingly engaging community leaders, women’s groups and other grassroots stakeholders.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the APC candidate and the women to discuss political participation and the need for effective representation at the federal level.
In a vote of thanks, the Forum Coordinator, Lady Joy Maduka, assured Atuma of the group’s support, saying the women were committed to mobilising for the APC during the 2027 elections.
Maduka pledged what she described as “100 per cent votes” for the APC in the area, while urging the party’s candidates to remain responsive to the needs and concerns of constituents.
The meeting is part of a growing series of grassroots engagements ahead of the 2027 polls, as politicians seek to strengthen their support base across Abia Central and the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency.
The development comes barely days after the Traditional rulers in Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, have conferred a chieftaincy title on a former lawmaker, Hon. Emeka Atuma, while expressing support for his ambition to represent Abia Central Senatorial District in the 2027 elections.
The traditional institution bestowed the title, “Ihie Ukwu Ohuhu,” on Atuma during the 2026 Iwa Ji Ohuhu celebration.
The conferment, according to the organisers, was in recognition of Atuma’s relationship with the Ohuhu community, his contributions to community development and his commitment to public service.
