The Labour Party senatorial candidate for Abia North, Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex, has criticised former Abia State Governor and incumbent Abia North Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, over his reported ambition to return to the Senate.
Bourdex argued that the Abia North senatorial seat was a position of public trust and should not be regarded as a personal entitlement, inheritance or political possession.
The Labour Party candidate made the remarks while questioning Kalu’s reasons for seeking another term in the Senate.
According to Bourdex, Kalu had already had significant opportunities to serve the people, having governed Abia State for eight years before becoming the senator representing Abia North.
He questioned what further achievements Kalu intended to pursue in the Senate that could not have been accomplished during his previous tenure.
Bourdex said he was particularly unimpressed by what he described as Kalu’s emphasis on becoming President of the Senate as a reason for seeking another mandate.
“All we hear him say, for those who care to listen, is: ‘I want to return because they have promised to make me Senate President.’
“What a laughable excuse.
“Once again, it is all about himself. ‘They want to make me Senate President.’ What a laughable excuse for seeking the mandate of the people,” Bourdex said.
He further declared, “No one in his right mind will make Orji Uzor Kalu Senate President—perhaps in his dreams.”
Bourdex maintained that elective office should be centred on service to the people and effective representation rather than personal political ambition or the pursuit of titles.
He urged voters in Abia North to scrutinise the records, priorities and motivations of candidates seeking to represent them at the National Assembly.
