The Abia State Government has clarified that it purchased twelve Toyota Hilux vehicles for about one billion naira, and not two as contained in the 2025 Accountant-General’s Report.

The clarification was contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, on Tuesday, following a review of the underlying payment records and supporting procurement documents by the Office of the Accountant-General.

The government explained that the figure “2” published on page 401 of the consolidated schedule was a quantity-entry error caused by the omission of the digit “1”.

According to the statement, the verified payment schedule showed that twelve Toyota Hilux vehicles were procured for a total of ₦1,003,091,350, representing an average cost of approximately ₦83.59 million per vehicle.

The vehicles were supplied by Ubale Services Enterprises and Globe Motors Holdings Limited.

The government said Ubale Services Enterprises supplied two 2024 Toyota Hilux vehicles for ₦177.75 million, while Globe Motors Holdings Limited supplied five Toyota Hilux Double Cabin Automatic Transmission Petrol vehicles and five Toyota Hilux 4WD Double Cabin vehicles.

It said the suppliers are identifiable corporate entities and that the number, specifications and value of the vehicles supplied can be independently verified from the companies and relevant government records.

The state government appreciated Abians and members of the public for their interest in its financial records, saying their feedback and scrutiny were valued.

It stressed that Governor Alex Otti had always maintained that his administration was not above mistakes and would readily acknowledge and correct any error, omission or typographical mistake in official publications.

The government said the reporting error would be formally corrected, with an explanatory note issued to ensure that the public record accurately reflects the transaction.

It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and responsible management of public resources, assuring the public that it would continue to publish its financial records and clarify issues promptly whenever necessary.
