LAGOS — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, has destroyed 329,865.585 kilogrammes of assorted illicit drugs and psychotropic substances valued at approximately ₦301.058 billion in Lagos.
The destruction exercise was carried out by the NDLEA Lagos State Strategic Command at the Nigerian Navy Marine Centre, Navy Town, Ojo, Lagos, with senior officials of the Navy, NDLEA, Lagos State Government, Nigeria Customs Service and other stakeholders in attendance.

The Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, disclosed the development in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the statement, 246,864.535 kilogrammes of the substances were seized by the NDLEA Lagos State Strategic Command between April 2025 and May 2026.
An additional 83,001.050 kilogrammes were recovered by the agency’s MMIA, Tin Can, Apapa Strategic Commands and the NDLEA Marine Command.

The destroyed substances included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, various strains of cannabis, ephedrine, tramadol, codeine syrup and other opioids, with an estimated street value of ₦301,058,076,000.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abubakar Abdullahi Mustapha, stressed the need for sustained cooperation among security agencies to tackle emerging threats.
He commended the longstanding partnership between the Nigerian Navy and NDLEA, particularly in disrupting illicit drug networks and intercepting vessels of interest.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd), described the exercise as evidence of Nigeria’s collective determination to keep seized illicit substances out of circulation and deny criminal networks resources to sustain their activities.

The Navy also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the NDLEA and other relevant agencies to disrupt drug trafficking networks, enhance national security and promote a safer maritime environment.
