ASEPA Seals Building After Two Men Feared Dead While Manually Evacuating Underground Sewage Tank in Aba

Aba, Abia State — Tragedy struck at 10 Power Line, off Omuma Road, Aba, after two able-bodied men were feared dead while manually evacuating an underground sewage tank.

The incident reportedly occurred around midnight when the two men were engaged in the evacuation of the underground sewage tank. Circumstances surrounding the incident were not immediately clear at the time of filing this report.

Following the incident, officials of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) reportedly moved to the location and sealed the affected building on Tuesday morning.

The incident has once again raised concerns about the dangers associated with the manual evacuation of underground sewage and waste facilities, particularly where adequate safety equipment, ventilation and professional procedures may not be in place.

The development comes against the backdrop of renewed efforts by the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) to improve environmental sanitation across the state since the administration of Governor Dr Alex Otti assumed office.
