Manchester City remain interested in Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández despite missing the deadline to make a formal transfer bid.

Chelsea had given City until 5pm on Friday to submit an offer for the Argentina international. The London club value Fernández at £120 million.

However, Manchester City did not submit a bid before the deadline.

Despite this, the transfer could still happen. City have until September 1 to make another approach for the midfielder.

Chelsea Set £120m Price for Fernández

Chelsea have made their position clear. The club want around £120 million before considering the sale of Fernández.

The midfielder remains under contract at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea also expect him to remain part of the squad for the 2026/27 season.

However, Manchester City’s continued interest could change the situation before the transfer window closes.

Why Does Man City Want Enzo Fernández?

Manchester City’s interest in Fernández is linked to their midfield plans.

New City manager Enzo Maresca is reportedly a big admirer of the Argentine midfielder. Maresca also knows Fernández well from his time at Chelsea.

The City boss believes Fernández could bring quality, energy and versatility to his midfield.

The 25-year-old can play in different midfield roles. As a result, he could give Manchester City more options during a long season.

Rodri Could Influence the Transfer

Another important factor is the future of Rodri.

Barcelona have shown interest in the Manchester City midfielder. However, City have rejected approaches for the Spain international and remain keen to keep him at the Etihad.

If Rodri leaves, Manchester City could decide to strengthen their midfield.

That could increase the chances of a fresh move for Fernández.

Fernández Faces Chelsea Pressure

Fernández’s future has also become a talking point among Chelsea supporters.

The midfielder received a mixed reception when he came off the bench during Chelsea’s friendly win over Real Sociedad. Some supporters reportedly booed the Argentina international.

Nevertheless, Chelsea still consider Fernández an important player.

The club therefore have little reason to sell unless Manchester City meet their valuation.

Will Manchester City Make Another Bid?

Manchester City’s failure to meet Chelsea’s deadline does not mean the transfer is over.

The summer transfer window remains open until September 1. Therefore, City still have time to make another offer.

Much could depend on Chelsea’s willingness to negotiate and City’s view of the £120m asking price.

The situation surrounding Rodri could also prove crucial.

For now, Fernández remains a Chelsea player. However, with Manchester City still monitoring his situation, his future could become one of the biggest transfer stories before deadline day.
