The Labour Party Governorship Candidate for Abia State, Hon. Ceekay Igara, has congratulated Senator Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as Governor of Osun State, describing the outcome as a demonstration of democracy in action.
In a statement issued by his Media Team on Sunday, Igara, who leads the David of Abia Campaign Organisation, said the Osun result showed what happens when the votes of the people are allowed to count.
The statement read in part, “This is what democracy looks like when the people are allowed to speak and their voices are respected. Governor Adeleke’s victory is not just a personal triumph but a triumph for every Nigerian who believes their vote should determine their leaders.”
Igara also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for what he described as yielding to pressure to deliver a credible outcome in the state, while calling on the commission to sustain the same standard across the country.
“We commend INEC for this outcome, but credibility cannot be selective. We task INEC to uphold this same level of integrity in every election going forward, including in Abia State, where the 2027 governorship election must reflect the true wishes of the people.” – He said
The Labour Party candidate insisted that Abia State deserved a similarly credible process in the 2027 governorship election, stressing that the outcome should be determined solely by the ballot box.
“Abia deserves nothing less than what Osun has just witnessed. The people must decide who leads them, not manipulation, not imposition, but the ballot box.” – He stated
Igara congratulated Adeleke once again and wished him a successful second term in office.
Adeleke was declared winner of the just concluded Osun state governorship election, after pulling a total of 511.067 Votes to defeat his closest rival Bola Oyebamiji of the All progressive Congress (APC) who scored 444,815 Votes, extending his stay in office for another four years.
