Last Sunday at Cine21 in Aba, the city came alive not just for a movie, but for a fashion moment. From the moment the red carpet unfurled, it was a sea of bold Ankara prints, rich adire fabrics, gele crowns and agbada splashes that shouted Aba pride. The traditional wear wasn’t just stylish, it was an Aba statement, every outfit telling its own story of heritage and panache.

The stars of Aba Blues brought that energy too. Angel Anosike, Jide Kene Achufusi, Nelson Enwerem, Odunlade Adekola and Toni Tones stepped out in looks as photogenic as their performances in the film, which was written and directed by Jack’enneth Opukeme.

Aba folks didn’t goto just watch just a film, they went to celebrate themselves. People packed the venue, dancing, cheering and proudly showing up in vibrant traditional styles that lit up the Cine21 lobby like a fashion carnival. Social media was buzzing with photos and clips celebrating all the colourful outfits and the electric hometown love.

This premiere followed the buzz earlier in the year when Nollywood A‑lister Timini Egbuson star of Love and New Notes made headlines in Aba after an open letter from radio personality Mhiz Confidence Paul urged him to bring his premiere to the city. That heartfelt shout‑out helped cement Aba’s place on the premiere map.

By night’s end, Aba Blues wasn’t just a movie screening, it was a cultural homecoming, a style moment, and once again, proof that Aba shows up colourfully and proudly.
