Plateau KIllings

Fresh violence has claimed three lives in Plateau State, barely 48 hours after President Bola Tinubu visited the region and vowed to end the cycle of killings, underscoring the persistent fragility of security in the area.

The latest attack reportedly occurred in a community in Jos South Local Government Area, where gunmen struck under the cover of darkness, killing residents and leaving others injured.

The incident comes amid heightened tension following recent coordinated assaults across parts of the state, including Riyom and Bassa, where communities have suffered repeated attacks in recent days.

Local leaders described the renewed violence as a direct challenge to ongoing efforts to restore peace, noting that the attacks have continued despite increased security presence and federal assurances.

President Tinubu had visited Plateau earlier in the week to commiserate with victims of previous attacks that left dozens dead, assuring residents that such incidents “would not happen again.”

However, the resurgence of violence has raised fresh concerns about the effectiveness of current security measures and the ability of authorities to prevent further bloodshed.

Security agencies have since intensified operations in affected areas, with efforts underway to track down the perpetrators, while community groups continue to call for sustained intervention and long-term solutions to the crisis.

The latest killings highlight the enduring challenge of insecurity in Plateau State, where cycles of violence have persisted for years, often flaring up despite repeated government interventions and pledges of lasting peace.
