The United States government has raised alarm over a possible terrorist threat targeting its diplomatic facilities and American-affiliated schools in Nigeria, prompting a security alert to its citizens in the country.

In an advisory issued by the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, American citizens were warned about potential threats against U.S. missions and institutions linked to the United States. The embassy urged Americans in Nigeria to exercise heightened vigilance and adopt additional safety measures.

According to the security notice, individuals visiting the U.S. Embassy in Abuja or the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos should remain alert and avoid predictable routines that could expose them to risk.

The embassy further advised citizens to review their personal security plans, remain aware of their surroundings and limit unnecessary exposure in crowded or public places where attacks could occur.

While the alert did not specify the exact nature or location of the potential threat, it warned that American diplomatic premises and schools affiliated with the United States could be possible targets.

The warning comes amid ongoing security concerns in Nigeria, where terrorism, banditry and kidnapping remain persistent challenges in several parts of the country. U.S. authorities routinely issue advisories urging their citizens to exercise caution due to risks of violent crime and terrorist activity.

Nigerian authorities have previously assured that security agencies are on alert and working to ensure the safety of diplomatic missions and foreign nationals in the country.
