An Enugu court has sentenced a 34-year-old man, Ejike Nnam, to eight years’ imprisonment for conspiracy and robbery after he pleaded guilty to snatching an iPhone XR valued at ₦240,000.

The Enugu State Police Command disclosed this in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, on Saturday.

According to the police, Nnam allegedly snatched the phone from a female victim along Bisalla Road, Enugu, at about 8pm on October 8, 2026, alongside an accomplice who is still at large.

The suspect, who reportedly resides in an unfinished building at Nkpokiti, Enugu, was arrested and arraigned before the Enugu North Magistrate Court the following day.

He subsequently pleaded guilty and was convicted, receiving three years’ imprisonment for conspiracy and five years for robbery.

The police said both sentences would run concurrently, meaning the convict would serve them at the same time rather than consecutively.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the court for the prompt dispensation of justice.

He also called for the speedy conclusion of police cases before the courts, noting that timely justice delivery helps strengthen public confidence in the justice system and supports crime prevention.

In a separate development, the police arrested a 29-year-old man, Richard Chukwuma, over the alleged theft of a bottle of whisky valued at ₦30,150 from a supermarket in Enugu.

The police said Chukwuma was arrested on October 7 and allegedly confessed during interrogation to previously stealing 15 bottles of the same drink from the supermarket.

He was arraigned on October 9 and remanded at the Enugu Correctional Centre, according to the police.

The two cases form part of the state police command’s ongoing efforts to address reported offences and ensure suspects are brought before the courts.
