Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has appealed to some of the country’s biggest music stars, including Burna Boy, Davido and Asake, to channel more of their wealth into charitable initiatives that support struggling Nigerians.

Speaking during the launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme in Lokoja, Kogi State, on Saturday, the First Lady encouraged the entertainers to establish foundations dedicated to improving the lives of low-income Nigerians, particularly petty traders such as akara sellers, pepper sellers and other small-scale business owners.

Oluremi Tinubu defended her earlier remarks urging Nigerians to support grassroots businesses, stressing that petty traders play a vital role in local economies but often lack the financial assistance needed to grow their businesses.

She noted that while many celebrities have achieved remarkable success and enjoy global recognition, they also have the capacity to make a lasting impact by investing in programmes that empower vulnerable communities.

The First Lady urged wealthy individuals, especially those in the entertainment industry, to complement government efforts by creating opportunities for the less privileged through philanthropy, skills development and financial support.

According to her, empowering small business owners and supporting community-based enterprises will contribute to poverty reduction, economic growth and improved livelihoods across the country.

Her remarks have sparked conversations on the role of celebrities and other high-net-worth individuals in supporting social development and expanding charitable initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
