The Nigerian Army has arrested a serving soldier, Staff Sergeant Amoke Simon, over an alleged N114 million fraud and false claims of involvement in the 2010 elimination of notorious kidnap kingpin Obioma Nwankwo, popularly known as Osisikankwu.
according to a post on MAGIC FM facebook page the arrest was disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who said the suspect was apprehended at Port Harcourt International Airport while attempting to flee to Abuja.
He was intercepted by joint operatives from the 14 Brigade and 6 Division Provost Groups amid an ongoing investigation into allegations of fraud, impersonation, and related offences.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect allegedly defrauded the Abia State Government by presenting himself as a central figure in the 2010 operation that neutralised Osisikankwu in Abia State.
Recall that NATIONAL CONCORD had earlier reported that Alex Otti recently hosted and honoured the same soldier, praising him for his purported role in ending the reign of terror by Osisikankwu and offering him overseas medical treatment at the state’s expense. The development is now being viewed as a possible trigger for the ongoing military investigation, amid claims that the narrative used to secure such recognition may have been fabricated.
Sources suggest the alleged false claims may have earned the suspect official commendation and financial benefits, forming part of the fraud case now under probe.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over internal accountability within the military and the potential exploitation of high-profile security operations for personal gain.
Military authorities are yet to issue a formal statement, but investigations are ongoing, with expectations of further revelations as the case unfolds.
