Millwall winger Femi Azeez announced himself in style for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, scoring twice in a 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe in the opening match of the Unity Cup.
The 24-year-old made an immediate impact on his senior debut, firing home a powerful left-footed strike in the fourth minute to hand Nigeria an early lead.
Azeez continued his impressive performance in the second half when he grabbed his second goal of the night just two minutes after the hour mark, sealing a comfortable win for the defending champions.
His outstanding display justified the efforts of Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, who moved quickly to secure the winger’s international future with Nigeria ahead of England.
The Millwall star, who was recently named in the English Championship Team of the Year, showed flashes of the quality Chelle had earlier compared to Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise.
Nigeria will now await the winner of the second semi-final clash between India and Jamaica as they prepare for the final of the tournament.
