The Labour Party candidate for Aba North and South Federal Constituency, Engr. Henry Eze, has marked the 2026 Children’s Day with a charged political and humanitarian statement, promising to sponsor legislation prescribing the death penalty for child kidnappers if elected to the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Wednesday, Eze expressed deep anguish over the abduction of over 40 children in Oyo State, who remain in captivity as Nigerians mark the annual celebration.

“Every child deserves to grow up free, safe, and full of hope, But today, over 40 innocent children are locked away in a kidnapper’s den somewhere in Oyo State, crying for their mothers, trembling in darkness while Nigeria goes about its business. That is a national shame, and it must end.” Eze said

Eze extended heartfelt sympathies to the families of the abducted children and called on the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Services, and all relevant security agencies to treat the mass kidnapping as a national emergency, deploying every available resource to secure the children’s safe return.

The Aba-based engineer-turned-politician announced plans to sponsor a Child Protection and Anti-Kidnapping Bill upon his election, one that would prescribe capital punishment for persons convicted of kidnapping minors with no provision for plea bargaining.

“When I get to Abuja, I will table a bill that will make any man think a thousand times before laying a criminal hand on a Nigerian child, We will close every legal loophole that lets these monsters walk free.” He added

Beyond the legislative promise, Eze called on residents of Aba North and Aba South to use the occasion to show love and extend protection to every child in their immediate community.

“Today, look around you. See a child, hug them, feed them, protect them. That child is Nigeria’s future. Be their guardian today,” he urged constituents.

The candidate also used the occasion to rally electoral support ahead of the 2027 polls, describing the Labour Party as a movement for Nigerians who have been “left behind for too long.”

“A vote for Labour is a vote for the child who has no shoes, for the mother who has no hospital, for the father who has no job, Get your PVC ready. On election day, vote Labour massively, confidently, and without apology. We will change the fortunes of Nigeria. That is not a slogan. That is a promise.” Eze stated.
