The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names and personal particulars of their candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections by an additional three days.

The electoral commission announced on Sunday that the new deadline is now midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, replacing the earlier deadline of Saturday, July 11, 2026.

According to a statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the extension followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on behalf of political parties experiencing difficulties uploading candidates’ information through INEC’s online nomination portal.

INEC said the decision demonstrates its commitment to ensuring that all political parties have a fair opportunity to complete the nomination process while operating within the provisions of the Electoral Act and the timetable for the 2027 general election.

The commission urged political parties to use the additional time to complete and upload all required candidate information before the revised deadline expires.

Several political parties had reportedly encountered technical and administrative challenges in meeting the original deadline, prompting IPAC to seek an extension to avoid disenfranchising eligible candidates.

The extension is expected to provide political parties with sufficient time to resolve outstanding issues and complete the nomination process ahead of the next phase of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
