Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has been selected as Lawmaker of the Year (House of Representatives) in the forthcoming Daily Times Nigeria @100 Centenary Awards.
The recognition followed what the newspaper described as an extensive nomination and public voting process, in which Kalu reportedly secured the highest number of votes in the category.
Publisher of Daily Times and Chairman of Folio Media Group, Chief Fidelis Anosike, led a delegation to Kalu’s office in Abuja over the weekend to formally communicate the decision and present the nomination and invitation letters.
The award organisers said Kalu’s selection was further confirmed by the Times Heroes Award Council and other stakeholders based on his leadership, public service and contributions to national development.
The organisers also disclosed that award recipients would be featured in the 700-page Nigerian Grand Book, being produced as part of the newspaper’s centenary celebrations.
Kalu, while responding to the recognition, thanked Daily Times for the honour, saying it would spur him to do more in representing Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State and contributing to national development.
The award ceremony is scheduled for September 3, 2026, in Abuja, as part of events marking Daily Times’ 100th anniversary.
