Residents of Ondo community in Ugboju District, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, have fled their homes following a fresh attack by suspected armed herdsmen, further escalating concerns over the security situation in the state.

The attackers reportedly invaded the community in the early hours of Tuesday, shooting indiscriminately and forcing residents to abandon their homes in search of safety.

The latest assault comes just days after deadly attacks on nearby communities in Otukpo Local Government Area that claimed several lives and triggered widespread protests by residents demanding improved security.

Although no official casualty figure had been confirmed at the time of filing this report, the attack caused panic across the community, with many families seeking refuge in neighbouring areas.

Residents called on security agencies and the government to intensify efforts to protect lives and property, expressing concern over the recurring attacks that have displaced many people from their ancestral homes.

The renewed violence has added to growing fears among residents of Benue State, where repeated attacks have continued to disrupt farming activities, force displacement and worsen the humanitarian situation in several communities.

Security agencies are expected to intensify operations in the affected area as efforts continue to restore normalcy and prevent further attacks.
