Mary Yul-Edochie Drags Alleged Cyberbullies to Court, Seeks Removal of Defamatory Social Media Accounts

Mary Yul-Edochie, the estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has approached the Lagos State High Court seeking judicial intervention to stop what she describes as a sustained campaign of cyberbullying, harassment and defamation against her.

In the suit, marked LD/10737GCM/2026, Mary is asking the court to order the removal of several social media accounts allegedly used to target her and to restrain Yinka Omolola Theisen, Emeka Ugwuonye and unidentified operators of various online accounts from publishing further defamatory content about her on Facebook, Instagram, X and other digital platforms.

The application, filed through her legal representatives, Jessica Egbafor and Esther Fijo of Greylaw Partners, also seeks a perpetual injunction preventing the defendants from making or publishing alleged defamatory, threatening or harassing materials about her.

She further requested an order directing that the disputed posts and accounts be taken down, while compelling the affected social media platforms to disclose information about the operators of the accounts to aid investigations.

In a 126-paragraph affidavit supporting the suit, Mary alleged that she has endured years of coordinated online harassment, including the circulation of false allegations, manipulated photographs, AI-generated images, offensive caricatures, insults and death threats intended to ridicule her and tarnish her reputation.

She claimed that despite issuing legal notices to some of the defendants in 2025 demanding the removal of the alleged defamatory publications, the campaign intensified, with new accounts allegedly created to continue the attacks.

Mary also accused one of the defendants, identified as a former legal representative, of breaching solicitor-client confidentiality by allegedly disclosing information obtained during legal representation.

The entrepreneur, influencer and brand ambassador stated that the publications have negatively affected her business interests, endorsement deals and commercial relationships. She added that the circulation of her personal contact details has exposed her and her family to harassment, causing emotional distress, anxiety and concerns for their safety.

Justice Abdul-Raheem Tejumade Muyideen has directed that all court processes be served on the defendants through their last known residential addresses, email addresses and social media accounts. The case was subsequently adjourned for a report on service.

The legal action follows cease-and-desist notices issued by Mary in September 2025, demanding the removal of the alleged defamatory publications, public retractions and apologies. In the notices, she sought ₦1 billion in damages from Emeka Ugwuonye and ₦500 million from Yinka Omolola Theisen over the alleged harm to her reputation and business interests.
