Don Jazzy has revealed that one of the most difficult decisions of his music career was allowing former Mavin Records artiste Di’Ja to leave the label.
The veteran music producer, whose real name is Michael Collins Ajereh, made the revelation during a recent episode of the Crea8torium podcast, where he reflected on some of the emotional moments he has experienced as a record label executive.
According to Don Jazzy, Di’Ja’s exit from Mavin Records was emotionally difficult because he considered every artiste under the label as part of his family.
“One of the most difficult decisions of my career was when I had to let Di’Ja go,” the Mavin boss said during the interview.
He added that he no longer personally handles artist exits from the label because of how emotionally draining the experience was for him.
Don Jazzy explained that label executives now oversee such matters whenever an artiste needs to leave the company.
The producer recalled that the atmosphere during the discussion surrounding Di’Ja’s departure became emotional, with everyone in the room reportedly breaking down in tears.
Di’Ja joined Mavin Records in 2014 and became one of the label’s prominent female acts, gaining popularity through songs such as “Yaro,” “Awww,” and collaborations including the hit track “Dorobucci.”
Although questions had surrounded her reduced visibility within the label over the years, the singer stated in 2023 that she did not formally leave Mavin Records, explaining that “life happened.”
Don Jazzy’s comments have since generated reactions on social media, with many fans praising the music executive for maintaining emotional connections with artistes signed under his label.
