Ghana have parted ways with head coach Otto Addo just weeks before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following a string of disappointing results.
The Ghana Football Association confirmed the decision on Tuesday, announcing that Addo’s contract had been terminated with immediate effect, barely 72 days to the global tournament.
The decision comes on the back of poor performances in recent international friendlies, including a 2-1 defeat to Germany and a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria, extending the team’s losing streak.
Pressure had mounted on Addo after Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, despite boasting top talents such as Mohammed Kudus and Antoine Semenyo.
Addo, who returned for a second stint as head coach in 2024, recorded eight wins and nine defeats in 22 matches during his tenure.
The former Borussia Dortmund player had previously led Ghana at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where the Black Stars were eliminated at the group stage.
Ghana, preparing for their fifth World Cup appearance, have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
The football association said it would announce a new technical direction for the team in due course as preparations intensify ahead of the tournament in North America.
