Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has urged Igbos to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, warning that backing opposition candidates could amount to “wasted votes.”

Soludo made the remarks while addressing supporters, stressing that the South-East should align strategically with the centre of power to secure greater political and economic benefits.

He cautioned against supporting former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra governor Peter Obi, suggesting that such choices may not yield tangible results for the region in the next electoral cycle.

According to him, the region currently enjoys a level of trust and engagement with the Tinubu administration, adding that consolidating that relationship would better serve Igbo interests ahead of the 2027 polls.

The governor’s comments have sparked political debate, particularly within the South-East, where Obi commands significant grassroots support following his performance in the 2023 presidential election.

Nigeria’s next general elections are scheduled for 2027, with early political alignments and endorsements already shaping the landscape of anticipated contests.

Soludo’s position reflects ongoing discussions about regional strategy, political alliances, and the role of the South-East in national power dynamics as the country gradually moves toward another election cycle.
