‎The Motherland Heritage Cup was officially unveiled in Lagos in a colourful ceremony highlighted by the decoration of esteemed Life Patron, Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, OON, MON who will be joining the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio on the board of Patrons of the Tournament.

‎The event also received the support of His Excellency, Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu, who was ably represented by Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development.

‎The Motherland Heritage Cup is another grand international invitational football initiative set to further position Lagos and Nigeria as leading destinations for sports, culture, and youth development. More than just a football competition, the tournament is designed as a festival of heritage, showcasing the rich cultural identity, diversity, and football passion that unite our nation and triggers culture, tourism, trade and investmentment.

‎This unique event will bring together football, culture, and the arts on one prestigious platform, creating an unforgettable celebration of African and African Diaspora excellence where countries in the Americas and Caribbean will join their brothers and sisters back in Lagos, Nigeria and Africa.

‎Commencing from Lagos, Nigeria will welcome seven other national teams from across Africa, South America and the Caribbean, making the Motherland Heritage Cup a truly international sporting and cultural spectacle.

‎To ensure nationwide participation and engagement, host centres have been designated across the country:

‎• Akwa Ibom State will host two participating countries.
‎• The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, will host two participating countries.
‎• Kano State will host two participating countries.
‎• Lagos State will host two participating countries.

‎At the conclusion of the state competitions, a champion will emerge from each host centre to compete in the Grand Finale scheduled to take place in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

‎The Main Organising Committee is comprised of distinguished personalities from football, entertainment, business, and public service, including Daniel Amokachi, MON who serves as the Global Brand Ambassador; Nollywood star Jim Iyke, who serves as Co-convener and Chief Strategy officer, Oluwatobi Johnson Fakayode, Convener and CEO of the Motherland Heritage Cup; Hon. Niyi Aofolajuwonlo, who heads the Lagos Local Organizing Committee; Samson Siasia, MON (Ex International Player; and Former Coach of the Nigerian National Team), Engr. Waidi Akanni; as well as the Chairmen of the Football Associations of the Federal Capital Territory, Kano and Akwa Ibom State.

‎The Motherland Heritage Cup represents a bold vision of unity, heritage, youth empowerment, and sporting excellence. It promises to be a landmark event that will strengthen cultural ties, foster international friendship, and celebrate the enduring power of football as a tool for social and economic development.

‎Hajji Gafar, Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, expressed his joy at the turnout and the high-profile individuals present. “It is an honor to share this moment with legends like Daniel Amokachi, Samson Siasia, Waidi Akanni and Jim Iyke,” he remarked.

‎”Football has consistently served as a unifying element in Nigeria, and the Motherland Heritage Cup provides our youth with yet another opportunity to aspire to greatness. The organizers are leading the way, and the LSFA is prepared to back events that foster identity and generate opportunities for young people.”
