The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, has pledged to relocate the seat of government back to Umuahia if elected, criticizing the continued operation of government activities from the governor’s private residence.

Anosike made the commitment while outlining his vision for governance and administrative reforms in the state ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

According to him, government business should be conducted from the official Government House in Umuahia, the state capital, rather than from a private residence. He argued that the arrangement undermines transparency and raises concerns about accountability in the management of public affairs.

The PDP candidate expressed concern over what he described as the prolonged operation of the state government from a private residence, stating that many residents have repeatedly questioned the practice.

Anosike maintained that restoring government activities to the official Government House would strengthen institutional governance and reinforce public confidence in the administration of state affairs.

He further argued that government institutions should be separated from private interests, emphasizing that official state functions must be carried out within designated public facilities that are accessible and accountable to the people.

The governorship hopeful said his administration would prioritize transparency, administrative efficiency, and adherence to established democratic principles. He noted that the Government House serves as an important symbol of state authority and should remain the primary location for official government business.

According to Anosike, relocating the seat of government back to Umuahia would also reaffirm the status of the capital city as the administrative headquarters of Abia State.

His comments add to the growing political debate ahead of the 2027 elections, as political parties and aspirants continue to present their plans and policy proposals to voters across the state.

The issue is expected to remain a subject of public discussion as stakeholders evaluate competing visions for governance, accountability, and institutional development in Abia State.
